New Attendance Zones
Students who will be in Grades K-5 for the 2009-2010 school year will be immediately affected by the plan. They will transfer to the new school assigned to them by the new attendance zone plan. As these students advance to the middle school grade levels, they will remain at the newly assigned campus, with Emily C. Watkins School incrementally implementing Grades 6-8, one grade per year, to become a full K-8 School by the 2012-2013 school year. Emily C. Watkins will add Grade 6 in 2010-2011, Grade 7 in 2011-2012 and Grade 8 in 2012-2013.
Meanwhile, students who will be in Grades 6-8 in the 2009-2010 year will remain at their current campuses for the duration of middle school.
“This plan allows all our current middle school students to stay on their same campuses. The incremental schedule allows the changes to grow with our students as they adapt,” said Dr. Millet. “This plan promotes best practices with regards to academics and discipline for our students. It’s proactive in nature and addresses the academic, emotional and social needs of our students.”
