St. John the Baptist Parish Public Schools
to Honor Outstanding Alumni

The St. John the Baptist Parish School System will institute a Hall of Distinction program, beginning this year, to honor outstanding alumni who have used their education and experiences to become successful, positive contributors to society.

A screening committee has begun accepting nominations for inductees. Those selected as inaugural members of the Hall of Distinction will be announced in the fall.

“We believe positive role models are extremely important in today’s world, and these graduates of the St. John the Baptist Parish Public School System should be held up as models for today’s students,” School Board Member Russ Wise said.

Wise presented the idea of the Hall of Distinction program to school administrators earlier this year as a means of showcasing the public school’s positive impact on the local community, the state and beyond.

“There are some remarkable people out there who started their ascent with a good education in our public school system. It’s important that we recognize these people, and in turn, applaud our system for doing a great job in helping so many become successful,” Wise said.
Hall of Distinction inductees must be persons who have graduated from a public high school in the parish, from at least five years ago. Alumni from East St. John High,

West St. John High, Leon Godchaux High, Fifth Ward High, Edgard High and Second Ward High are eligible. Persons may also be nominated posthumously.

Nominees should be persons who are respected by their peers, are outstanding in their career field(s), and are recognized by the general population. Their actions should promote society in a way that benefits many people, and they should bring honor and prestige to the St. John the Baptist Parish Public School System.

Nomination forms are available at the parish’s two public high schools, the central office and on the web at www.stjohn.k12.la.us. Supporting documentation for nominees should be submitted with the forms.
